Mr Adam had been shortlisted to just 1 of 4 headteachers in the UK in the Secondary Headteacher of The Year category at the Pearson National Teaching Awards.
Every year the Teaching Awards work with The One Show in a week long campaign to announce some of that years winners. This year Mr Adam was chosen to appear on the programme. However, he thought they were just coming into school to do some filming with nominees, little did he know he was going to be announced as the gold winner.
During what he thought was a ‘fencing exhibition’ a surprise fencer called him up as his dual partner. After a couple of minutes Matt Allwright took off his fencing helmet and revealed himself as The One Show presenter, pulling the gold trophy out! All staff and students were so surprised, and it is still sinking in for Mr Adam now.
