OUR LIBRARY

Our ambition is for Crown Hills Community College to be a ‘reading school’ with reading, both for purpose and for pleasure, embedded within the culture of the college. The promotion of a strong reading culture can, and does, have a major, positive impact on children and their futures as adults. In line with the school values of aspiration and commitment, we want our students to be the best readers that they can be. We, therefore, want to encourage and increase our students’ independent reading of increasingly challenging (fiction and non-fiction) material.

Our school library lies at the heart of an active programme of reading-related events including reading challenges, booktalking sessions, author visits, and activities linked to World Book Day, National Poetry Day and other celebrations throughout the year. A termly library newsletter keeps students and their families informed of the latest news and events, as well as student reviews and recommended reads.

Library News

Reading Rampage

Our library is ready for the start of @Reading_Rampage #ReadingRampage2022. The displays are up, the board is ready for student reviews, and the books are waiting. Another amazing selection of reads for our Year 7 and 8 students to get stuck in to!

Oracy Contest

Recently, 40 of our students from across all year groups took part in a poetry reading contest for National Poetry Day. Everyone was particularly impressed by how articulate each student was when reading their poems. They had also been working on the use of body language to make their reading more powerful. Extra congratulations goes to the winners!

Author Event

It was an honour to welcome William Hussey to our CLS 10for10 author event! Our students enjoyed hearing about ‘The Outrage’ and listened to readings from the book. Thank you to all the other schools who joined us, what a great opportunity for our pupils!

Principal's welcome

I am delighted to welcome you to the Crown Hills Community
website. In the top 12% of schools nationally, Crown Hills
blends a 70 year history of inclusive education with an
innovative, forward-looking approach to providing a state
education like no other to 1500 students from the
inner-city backgrounds.

On this website, you will find all that you need to know
about our college: its history, its values and its vision
for the future. Aspiration, Commitment and Success are our
core values that underpin everything that we do and you will

that we do.
