Transition from Year 6
Welcome to our transition page. We are pleased that you are considering CHCC as a choice of secondary school for your child. It is a great honour to be able to support your child over the next 5 years of their life, a period that will last with them for a lifetime, and we hope that it will be an experience that sets them to be ready for the wider world.
If you have any questions regarding transition, please contact the college reception who will put you in touch with our transition co-ordinator.
Pre-Application
In the Autumn term we open our college to visitors, whilst pupils are being taught and allow the college to be seen in action. We also have an annual Open Evening for you and your family to come and visit us, where you can hear from our Principal, tour our facilities, meet current staff and pupils, see the curriculum and enrichment opportunities offered.
Please do take the opportunity to visit as many schools in the local area as possible, because having been where you are, we know full well how important this decision is for you and your family. All applications must be made via the Leicester City Council Admissions and please ensure that you meet the deadline.
Post-Application
At the beginning of March, pupils will receive news of their allocated secondary school.
In the summer term, visits to local primary schools take place to help put pupils at ease about the transition process. These will inform pupils about what life will be like at secondary school, answer any questions pupils might raise and also speak directly to Year 6 teachers.
The SENDCO team speak directly with the primary school SENDCO and parents, about the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs. There are also extra transition times in the summer term for parents and SEND pupils, whereby you are invited to meet the Teaching Assistants, the SENDCO and other key members of the team and have a tour of the facilities.
At the end of the summer term our Induction Day takes place. We will also expect you to spend the first 1 hour with us when your child attends their Induction Day. Please make the time to meet with us on this day as we will share all the information that you need to support your child.
We use this day to introduce your child to their form tutor and fellow tutees, tour facilities and experience sample lessons. By the end of the day, your child will have gained insight into life at CHCC.
At the start of Year 7 all pupils take part in an induction process, where they spend time with their form groups getting to know one another and the surroundings before being slowly integrated into a full-time timetable.
Welcome to Crown Hills Video
Our Year 7s have filmed a video to show Year 6s what life is like at Crown Hills. Hopefully they will answer some of your questions!
Watch out at the end for the students who are speaking in Gujarati!
